New religious movements
Overview:
This unit focuses on the fractures in religious traditions that have led to mass diversity in faith. Pupils will study a range of sects and cults and consider the rights that these believers have to practice their faith, regardless of the impact that it may have on others.

Sect
A relatively small group with beliefs or practices based on traditional religious ideas.
Cult
A religious or spiritual group that has modern origins and is outside of its society's dominant religious culture. Some may have roots in an existing religion but with significant differences.
Freedom
The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants.
Faith
Complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
