Pupil Premium

What is the Pupil Premium (PP)?

The Pupil Premium is a sum of money received by the college, from Central Government funds, to provide additional resources for any pupil who is:

  • Currently eligible for Free School Meals [FSM]
  • Has been eligible for FSM in the past 6 years
  • Designated a Child in Care [Looked After Children (LAC)]
  • Designated a Previously Looked After Child (PLAC)– through adoption from Care, Special Guardianship or a Child Arrangement Order
  • A child whose parents are currently serving in the Armed Forces.

In addition, the college has the discretion to allocate PP funds to pupils who we believe are socially disadvantaged or vulnerable but who may not qualify for PP funding.

The vision for PP provision at Swanmore

At the heart of this provision lies the premise that every pupil, regardless of their socio-economic background or ability, should and will have access to the appropriate support to ensure they leave Swanmore College having reached or exceeded their potential; potential here means readiness for life beyond Swanmore, be it in further education, an apprenticeship, employment or readiness to be a happy and fulfilled member of society.

To this end, we are committed to ensure that this combined funding meets the academic, pastoral and social needs of all pupils who may require additional support to achieve their potential and close the attainment gap between them and their peers.

Service Premium

We have a small proportion of students at college who are from Military backgrounds, and we receive the Service Premium for their benefit. As most of the Naval families around here have settled and bought houses in the area, we have found that they generally do not require the catch-up assistance required by those military families that move area, schools and curriculums a great deal.  The funding is, however, useful for supplying revision guides and pastoral and ELSA provision in the event of parents being deployed for some time.
